a question about shimming

My 1990 Alpinestar has a 31.2 post, which is proving to be a complete nightmare as it seem an impossible size to replace.

I want a longer post, and I'm guessing I might just have to go smaller, and shim.

So I think I might go for a 30.9, and would like to know the best type of shim.

I'm thinking cola (or indeed beer   ) can, but would prefer for this to not be the ultimate solution..

Help..

Anything 150um thick will do.

Though you can buy shims from 27.2 to that size.

Cheers fella, I'll get the micrometer out to see what's suitable..

I really want to go for the fattest post possible, as it's a 1990 Alu frame   and I want to preserve it.

I'm paranoid about damaging retro frames now, and a skinny post with fat shim would not help my mindset..

Alu one  I'd get the exact perfect size and bond it to the frame
