in summary if they offered me a full time job i'd have trouble saying no, even though my main job (cycle instructor) pays more.

This bit sounds interesting. What do you do as a cycle instructor? Who, where, how much? (if you don't mind me asking?)

i read this and thought 'motorcycle instructor' i would be interested to know if this is not the case..:P

not motor bikes all though that is something for the future.

i'm a bikeability instructor. teaching safe cycling to anyone who wants to learn :D mainly its school kids but also do one to ones with adults.

pardon my ignorance, but i never knew this existed (for adults anyway)

yeah its the new up dated version of cycling proficiency essentially but with a fair bit more riding.

adult wise, if your town is a dedicated cycling town, everyone is entitled to three hours cycle training. i have taught people ranging from mums who want to commute their kids to school to 75 year old ladies who want to learn to ride before they snuff it (their words). it is amazing how after just a few hours people who wouldn't feel confident enough to ride on the road are commuting daily.

its an cracking job, pays well, nice hours, typically 10-3 so ideal if you have kids.

down sides are you only tend to work during term time and between beginning of november and end of feb are pretty much written off due to weather. which is why i have the other pt job as when bikeability is quiet the mechanics side is busy so can pick up over time.

Last salary I had as workshop manager before I went self employed was over £3000 a month plus benefits.

It's different in Denmark I guess 8D.

£3000 a month  I'm in the wrong business!

I imagine the cycle mechanic/shop thing is one of those trades that does pay well if you can get to the tree either managing or owning.

Most mechanics I know are on less than 20k

seems to me that something like this is only for someone who has crazy knowledge and a whole heap of experience (in order to demand a decent wage from it) or as something on the side.....
