A Fixie for Xmas

Abaca

Old School Hero
So iv set myself a goal of having the Raleigh lizard converted to fixed gear by Xmas.
Iv been putting it off too long.
Currently got frame, forks and front and rear wheel complete with slick tyres.
Think my to buy list goes like this
Seat post clamp(size)
Chain
Seat post (any help with size)
Saddle
V brakes,cable and levers
Track hub and lockring (running a suicide hub)
Stem (size?)
Handlebars (size,recommendations?)
Grips

Think that's me!
I have a screw on freewheel on the rear so planning on using a suicide hub here with 42/17 gearing .
Obviously I'm on the hunt for bits so if you have anything that work with it let me know.
Also if you have built a fixt before and know any tips/tricks please share
Thanks

Stem is BMX size on those if I recall, so 21.1mm instead of 22.2 like normal 1" quills. But then, Raleigh weren't famed for their consistency. Best to take it into your LBS and get them to sell you a stem. If a 22.2 stem doesn't fit they won't be able to help; give me a shout and I will sell you a stem that does.

TBH, I would do the same with the seatpin. There's a tool for working out the correct size for seatposts, a good bike shop will have one.

Any old handlebar will do. That would have had a flat, wide handlebar when it was new.

Anything else?

Hi
Thanks for info, can you msg me a pic of the stem you have and a price as well thanks, looks like a 21.1 like you said

Can you get mtb handlebars using a 21.1mm bmx stem?

Found an old seatpost in the shed, the ones that attach to a saddle without rails, does anybody make saddles to fit these anymore?

The handlebar diameter is the same.

As to the seatpost, yes and I will send you one if you need to buy my stem.

But go to your bike shop first, because you can get the same from them and if I sell you my BMX stem and your frame uses a 22.2mm stem it is no good to you.

If the seat post diameter is 25.4mm, the same as a Raleigh Alaska (if I'm remembering correctly!), then a I have a spare black seat post at home you can have karma if you need it.

Guys appreciate the replys,I'll measure the seat post later and let you know,if it has an attachment for a rail saddle all the better.
Picked up a stem off the bay after loads of searching! Pretty rare size that 21.1

Cheers

It might not fit! They look as if they will, but when you start riding the bars turn when you're going in a straight line.

Some Raleighs are 21.1, some are 22.2. That's the reason I said go to a bike shop; you can try one in the frame before wasting your money on the wrong thing.

Re:

Sorry meant to say I tried out a 22.2 and it didn't fit

What's your take on coloured cranks? After seeing a lizard with an orange bottle cage I was going for some orange components, bar tape and pedals but I'm not sure about the cranks?
Orange and green for the win or can you recommend a better colour scheme?
