When you say "found", do you mean in/on the ground or at auctions etc?

Is that the tail end of a mortar there? I once saw a shaped bit of metal sticking out of a bank in an old quarry. After a few good kicks it dropped out and was the tail end of a, fortunately already exploded, mortar shell. On getting home and goggling the site I found out that the quarry was used as a firing range during ww2. Local rumour has it that there is a fortune in spent brass cartridge cases dumped in the vicinity.

There is a small island at the edge of breydon water that has had loads of caterpillar tracks,and scrap from war vehicles dumped on it,all sunk in the mud now though

I found them when my father used to go metal detecting,the bronze found by the metal detector and the flint picked up while walking the field

There is a flint spear head in our local museum that is a very fine example and they said mine was nicer :shock:

Some nice old stuff there MM, I've found a few old bits digging up peoples gardens, clay pipes and old military badges etc. Can you date pottery at all from photos? I found a small fragment of something on Highdown Hill a while ago and was wondering what it was.... Highdown Hill has had all sorts of people up there from neolithic through to medieval you see...
