A different type of bike rack question

Afternoon all,

Im hoping the retrobike massive can help me out as usual!

The building management company where my office is based are fitting bike racks. There current plan is to fit the type that just hold one wheel. Ive said I will refuse to use it, as a) I believe they dont make the bike secure and b) I believe they damage the wheel.

The company are saying that they require prrof of this otherwise if I wish to leave my bike near my office I have to use what they provide.

I have found the following article

http://bicyclevault.com/2010/11/24/what ... %E2%80%A6/

but could do with something more concrete (maybe there is a eview someone knows of?)

Thank you as always

Stephen.

P.s If the think my objection to using it is wrong please tell me also.

The very least they should install is something like this...

...you've got to be able to secure the frame of the bike and both wheels.

There are plenty of ideas here...

We have something very similar where I work.
The only downfall is that the metal scratched the wotnots out of your frame if you aren't very careful.
Mind you, a polite word with Building Services and the suggestion of taping pipe insulation foam round them, means that we now have non-scratching, secure storage :)

There is THIS from Sustrans.
Bingo. It doesn't get much more authoritative than that. They've even included drawings and costs.

Excellent solution! 8)

Info sent, and my work have agreed that they will sort the lagging if the management company put in the correct racks

If it helps, I can ask our Building peeps where they gotting the foam from.
I'm guessing it may be air con pipe lagging as it's a pretty large diameter.
