A Cracked Crossmax :( - Advice please

Mate of mine did almost a season of nationals on a cracked on of those when they first came out. That was how long it took mavic to sort a replacement.

They are pretty strong rims.

Re:

Any idea how big I should drill the hole? Apparently it needs to be big enough so that it takes away the stress force from the end of the crack. However, I don't know how big that is!

Small and neat. 2mm dia, at most.
Deburr as best you can (won't be able to on the inside, but clean up the outside)

TBH, i'd monitor it for a few rides before drilling.

Thanks :)

I'm going to break out my grandad's drill over the weekend and get to it. Prevention is better than cure, as they say! Would you advise filling the drilled out hole and giving it a quick coat of silver paint to hide it, or should I leave it as is?

I would leave it as a drilled hole so you can monitor it.

Just make sure you drill the crack at the end - it may go further than you initially think.

WD :D

I'd still advise riding it a bit first.
And if you do drill it, you need as neat a hole as possible.
So new drill bit, some lubricant and a decent speed.
