'99 Hei Hei Ti - *Finished* Page3 - Under Attack!

Re: '99 Hei Hei Ti - update 4-Nov

can't wait. i'd also opt for a SID fork. But let it not stop you from finishing this one to your standards!

Re: '99 Hei Hei Ti - update 4-Nov

NIce..your build looks steady and clean..

currently got a set of marz marathon 03's on my 98KK. but have also have a nice set of TB 410mm P2's that i can swap over. I'm tempted to have the forks painted somthing else. not sur eon what yet thought. I like the gunmetal marz fork colour.

In an ideal world i would have a bouncy KK and a rigid HH. now to sell a kidney ;)

Am loving the meticulous nature of this build. Also the content. I'm sure you'd be able to find a nice 2nd hand SID fork that you obviously have the skills to re-paint?

Thanks to all for the nice compliments. Yes i agree the bike deserves a decent sus fork, but this is the retrobike of my dreams and i just don't want (maybe too fussy?) to use secondhand moving parts. I want to know what it feels like to ride a 'new' classic Hei Hei, to know that every component is in A1 condition. The only used parts are the frame, P2 fork and seat post, everything else is new. I tried to source NOS SIDs or Durins but no luck. At least TBP2s are a 'correct' fork so i'm pretty happy with those... for now. ;) Now in UK collecting the fork, longer spokes for the front wheel and a few other bits, then back to KL to finish off the build. Started this in 2012, probably won't finish 'till 2014! Got distracted this month by the Pine Mountain. Merry Christmas Retrobikers :xmas-cool:

Re: '99 Hei Hei Ti - update 16-Dec

What a great build, look forward to seeing the finished build :)

I've got a '93 Hei Hei which I've fitted modern parts too (960 XTR & XT) and TBH it wouldn't look out of place propped up with something modern and high end....the titanium seems to be timeless. I would try a used supension fork if you can do as it's a bike that does work well with one. I had some Fox floats in grey which I put the spacer in to reduce down to 80mm, the only issue was the knobs at the top caught on the cable stops so I had to buy a lower headset cup which was slightly taller so it cleared but yours has top tube routing which solves that issue. I'm now running a P2 triple butted and it does look nice, harsh on old wrists though!

A few finishing touches, shortening the Magura brake hoses and cutting the Hope skewers to length...

Re: '99 Hei Hei Ti - update 15-Jan

Righto it's finally finished! This bike has been over a year in the making with researching, ordering, bringing bits over in my suitcase, building, changing plans, getting the spoke lengths wrong, ordering again etc.. It's the first time i've built a bike up from a bare frame without any other original parts available, so it was great fun finding everything and learning along the way. Duck for cover here it comes.. :p
