'98 GT LTS 4000 seatpost size

So now I have a 27.2 - 30.6mm shim and it's a snug fit in the tube.. and, when fitted, a 27.2 post doesn't fit.

ffs... getting the 'ump now.

I have a LTS4000, the one with a steel frame. When I got it, there was a 29.6 post stuck fast in there. I removed it with much drama, and dutifully cleaned out the seat tube. Thinking this was the correct size, I stuck a new 29.6 in. It is an odd size, and took some hunting to get one. Tight fit, but didn't requie excessive force. Now this bike lives with my brother, and last time I checked, the new post was stuck again. Is there a post size somewhere between 28.6 & 29.6? Let me know how you get on, because if I get the bike back, it will mean a new post as the current one will be sacrificed to remove it!!
Pete.

You have a steel framed LTS and aren't ashamed to admit it??

Didn't even know they made seatposts in 29.6 flavour, the only ones on ebay at the mo are in the US and the £22 shipping makes them, well, stupid money.
Probably easier to buy a shim (which could also assist with your sticking seatpost issue)...

Would be handy to be able to use 27.2 posts since I have a couple of those on the spares shelf....

Decided I'm building this up as a 'nothing special' 1 x 8 . . . . the other metal in the garage should satisfy any vanity requirements in time.

Chain Reaction have them in 29.4 flavour . . . FSA ones don't look too bad, would prefer silver buy hey

Now you've made me all sad!!
Here's me thinking steel frames were cool..... perhaps not for full suss then? And it is a most fetching yellowish colour.
If the post ever needs to be shifted, I will follow your advice and use a smaller post with shim.
Thanks,
Pete.

Don't be sad on my account
I have one of these too remember ;) ... only rode it very briefly but rather like it. 8)
Not going to dress it in luxurious metalwork now but I'll sort it nicely - for fear of again being reprimanded for abuse of decent kit on an unworthy lump of steel

Now if only someone would reply to my emails about replacement nylon bushes
