979 vitus build

Can I upgrade my vitus with shimano ultegra ergo shifters and 7 speed? Also are there adapters available to convert the Downtube shifter bosses? This is my first ever build. I know the spacing is 126 mm.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

126 mm should work for 7 speed. See here:

You can buy clamp on cable stops to go over the shifter bosses, usually standard Shimano ones will fit, but not always - maybe take your frame to your local bike shop to check this.

Hi Doug, I've got 7 speed on mine. Campagnolo record hubs and 7 speed dura -ace freewheel at 126mm spacing.

Love the colour of your 979. Makes my blue one look a bit boring!

It was black anodized, but I couldn't afford the finish so I had a friend paint it candy purple paint. I can't find a Vitus fork, so I am probably going to add a black carbon fiber fork.

I would look at Kinesis Alu. fork, it would suit the frame better IMHO.

Agree fork would look better in polished silver alloy, though carbon could be a little comfier & lighter.

I found a 979 Vitus fork. I will install this week. Stem and handlebars will follow. Thanks for everyone's imput.

I received my Vitus fork. The fork has threads. Do I have to use a threaded headset or can I use a threadless headset?

I finally finished the rebuild of a 979 Vitus. I went for a two hour ride and nothing fell off, so we did something right. I want to thank all the members and forums for the direction and suggestions.
