I had problems with the shifters and found braking rather poor compared to later canti's. But maybe I just had a bad mechanic.

I wouldn't put M730 on a bike you intend to ride.

I am thinking of putting a modernish groupset on the Saracen (SLX 10 speed) as I love the comfort and performance of post-7 speed groupsets. I started mountainbiking in 1991 and don't have good memories on how older 7 speed groupsets were performing in winter circomstances...

M730/2/5 have never...and I mean never let me down. If maintained its bombproof

+1 it's ace! Looking forward to seeing it come together mate

They are nice but going with boring old xt m734 cantis.....or dia-compe 987s? Hmmmmm

Personally wouldn't go cantis but you've made your choice.

Looks a good start. Get some decent wheels and tyres on it.

Thanks...yeah the canti choice is odd but I think its all gonna work ok!
As for wheels...looks like m900/ m261 in dark grey currently. I really want a mate for a lone xt m73?/ ritchey vantage in shiny silver but hay ho.
