97' Cinder Cone rear mech cable routing

Am I being thick or does it really go from one side to the other under the down tube? It doesn't look right and rubs the paintwork but seems to be the only way.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

But why did Kona do this?

I can't see any benefit in having the cable stop on the 'wrong' side :?

Well personally I think it's the right side!

I always cross my cables - if you run cable from the shifter to the nearer stop, the natural curvature of the outer will make it wear the paint off your headtube, whereas if you run to the other side, the natural curvature takes the cable away from your precious paint. Crossing, top or down tube, doesn't bother me, you just need rubber thingys and your frame will be fine. Each to their own!
