Im looking to buy a set of 96 Judy XC.s but I want to be able to swap the internals & lower legs from a pair of 97 Sl fork onto the 96 crown & stanchions.Be grateful for any advice .
Not sure theinternals are a straight swap. Iirc, the 97 forks have 1 piece lowers rather than separate legs and bolted brake brace. If so, the sl dampers have a larger bolt which will not fit through the lower leg holes in the 96 forks. You could drill them out, but is thst a good idea, I recall a thread on here where someone had found a way of doing this, but can't remember the solution.
Another option is to use the damper shafts from the 96 inside the bodies of the 97s. You'd end up with the correct sized bolts for the lowers, you'd just need to rebuild the damper. This would depend on the travel you want, as I'm assuming the 97s may be longer travel.
