Mr Z - is that an aftermarket Fox rear shock? What year is that and is there any 'rules' about which way up an air shock could/should be mounted (this is the inverse of standard Alps isn't it?).

It's a Fox Float from a Cannondale Scalpel (I was interested in gaining lockout capability) and as such the orientation is correct for this particular shock. The eye to eye is llength is actually a hair shorter than the original Fox Alps and it fits the application well.

As far as I'm aware orientation is relative to the shock's intended application, so in retrofitting a shock it is important to keep it's orientation similar to how it was originally mounted or intended to be mounted. However, I'm really not sure to what degree this in fact affects the shock's function/performance.

Mr Z,

Do I see that you have modded the frame to accommodate the air valve?

I like the idea of having a lock-out - but when do you deploy it? Climbing or on road sections?

Yes, I did have the mod the shock mounting plate a bit to accommodate the air valve. I used a Dremel with a circular grinding head that has a diameter slightly larger than the cap for the air valve.

Though I don't find myself in the situation very often the lockout is primarily deployed on big ring road sections where I've found that the frame will otherwise tend to experience some pedal induced shock actuation. I might use it more often in certain trail situations if I had the remote installed, but haven't taken the time to workout a clean mounting/cabling solution for that yet.
