95 Cindercone rear cable guide

I know its an old question,but I decided to convert my cindy bact to cantis last night as it had been running a temp v brake setup.

Im going with my dia compe 986's and front ones are fine,work great too.

The problem is the rears,Im using the metal dog collar (the one with the dog logo on it) and have set the cantis up correctly and routed the cable through the guide.

The friction is terrible where the cable rubs on the guide to the point that im getting shavings of alloy on the cable. Also the cable dosnt come down straight to the hanger!! Is this how it was due to the position of the cable guide?

I just want it to be nice and smooth like the front as i love the look of the 986's on the bike. If not I will have to go back to the V brakes!!, or have i done something totally wrong!!

the collar needs rotating so the exit hole is in the centre of the seat tube. to stop the friction may be try running a section of that tubing stuff normally found between brake stops.
 
run a length of plastic cable inner from the last cable stop behind the head tube through the dog collar, ending an inch past it....this will allow you to lube it up and prevent the direct contact between cable and the collar that is causing the friction....as stated, the dog collar should be used to bend the cable round, the cable should run straight out of it to the hangar.....the hangar will sit slightly to the left as it sits on the straddle cable.... :wink:

also.....a cable stop sat at the ends of the brake cables (first picture showing fork brace) will stiffen things up and stop the cable outer getting chewed up when under braking pressure.... :D ....nice bike, i love mine....it gives as good a ride as some of my much 'higher end' bikes.....

As a non-expert without a single qualification apart from a Home Economics CSE(F) (see seperate 'Crap Advice' thread :wink: ) if your brakes were set up correctly I wouldn't have thought you'd have enough cable pull to do that amount of damage??

But what do I know... :facepalm:
