94 Lava Dome

I cant believe how confusing this is becoming! surly if you take a measurement from the center of the crank nut to the top of the seat tube it will tell you the size of the frame? if thats measured as 19 then i would take it its a 19 inch frame. The top tube does indeed sit lower, by a few inches from the top of the seat tube.

Right. Kona have always measured from the centre of the bottom bracket to the very top of the seat tube. If it measures 19" it is 19".

One-eyed-Jim is right, Guy's figures apply to earlier years but the geometry changed after 1992 and from 93 onwards, the 17 and 18 each has a head tube of 11cm, the 19 has 13cm etc. But the easiest ways to tell the size are:

1. on the 18, the seat stay and down tube are parallel, on the 19 the seat stay is a little steeper and the 17 it is shallower

2. on the 18 the line of the top tube intersects the rear wheel just below the rim, on the 19 it points at the tyre, on the 17 about a third of the way to the hub etc

Feel like I have started WW3 now! I only asked because I didn't know. There is obviously a difference of opinion but then that is what forums are for isn't it? If it is a 18'' I bid to win if its a 19'' I'm out. Either way the reserve is quite high so who knows, I dont seem to have a definative answer on the size so what to do :? ???????????

Here are two Explosifs, one of which you might recognise Trevor. Note they have the same head tube and note the different lines of the top tube and the different lines of the seat stay clearly differentiating between your 17 and 18 with the Mars forks.

I trust this is a definitive answer, on ye of little faith?

 Jesus....this is a confusing topic here with Kona's frame sizes, the best way to find out the correct size that one member here 'tallpaul' can put us out of misery because he have two steel Kona bikes, a white 19" frame and a green 20" frame

If he have some free time and dont mind helping by measure his two Kona's frames for us here.

Sorry tallpaul for dragging you on this topic, everybody including me have different ways of measuring the Kona's frames. Could you measure your 19" and 20" frames for us please.

1. centre b/b to the very top of seatpost tube
2. frame headset tube length

Thanks

Frankly, i've just got home from football and i'm on my arse and can't be bothered to go to the garage. The frame in the auction looks like a 19" to me, but i now have to add a caveat to my observations along the lines of '... it's just a guess'.

Guy, as I have said your information relates to pre-93 bikes and the eBay bike is a 94. TallPaul has a 92 and a 96!
