This is a pic of the bike when I bought it about 15 months ago. The photo makes it look a lot better than it was as the decals were very tatty and there were lots of paint scratches and some rust. I decided to keep as much of the original paintwork as possible to use as a sound base coat - that meant keeping about 90%. I used primer, two cans of car paint plus one can of enamel - many coats over a couple of weeks, plus lots of time in the central heating boiler cupboard to aid drying - my wife didn't appreciate that!
Most of the kit was original , except for the Alivio rear mech and chainset. The DX kit on there works really well and I'm going to replace the Alivio with period DX (I've already got the rear mech so on the lookout for a chainset). I've changed the BB, which was a bugger to get off.
Don't like the bar-ends so they're not going back on!
I've already made a slight cock-up and scratched the EG decal on the drive side,

so I'll be covering the decals with helicopter tape as protection.
While the finish does look good I know it's not going to be as durable as a professional paint job so I'm going to have to be a bit more careful about where I drop it.
When I get it finished I'll update this thread.
