93 Klein Attitude - swap forks wthout MC1 tool

Hi
Ive searched and read a few threads and found that whil it is possible, theres a fair bit of “risk” of tying to remove without the proper tool.
Does using a press lessen the risk as youre not smashing away at it with a hammer / wooden block?
I am hoping to swap out the rockshox for the uniklein and dont want to damage. A few shops have said they can do it, and im hapy to pay a small fee if it means it gets done without damaging.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I've done it although I was stripping it down for a repaint so wasnt too concerned with paint damage which I guarantee will happen. Getting it back together wasn't fun.
Two problems with not using the correct tool are finding areas to press against (particularly during removal) and any pressing/hammering will put unnecessary stress on the bearing races which aren't exactly common!

Re:

Thanks for the info - greatly appreciated. Hoping to use a press to remove, but as you mention its the reinstallation that seems to be tricky without the tool.

A press is better than hammering for sure! There is just very little to hold when pressing out the forks.
Good luck.
