nice bike and an Explosif with an AMP fork is also not a common mod.

dislike the cranks and the tyres, but those are things which can be easily changed.

Maybe he bought it in 95/96, but its not from that year Kona range, as that year Kona used Columbus Max tubes for the Explosif - this specific Tange tubeset with the flutes on the downtube was used earlier, 93 ? pls. correct me if I'm wrong

It's visibly a size 18 1993 frame. He recalls it being the top of the range and it has non-standard paintwork, so the possibility arises that it could be a Hot. However neither the 1993 Hot nor Explosif had an Ultrastrong sticker on the seat tube, as the sticker has to be true of the tube it is on and the 1993 Hot and Explosif had Concept seat tubes and Concept stickers. That leads me to think it is most likely a repainted 1993 Explosif. Nice colour IMO.

Anthony,
you say a hot..my 2 hots dont have bike panniers bolts/threads on the seat stays..looking at this one ..it doesnt either??..so do you think more than likely could it be a hot..to verify a hot would it be worth asking the seller if it has the " T e T" stamp on the bottom bracket

Ernie

I don't think it's a Hot, but it could be. Anybody know how many Hots Teesdale had made by 93?

Hots had the fluted downtube up into the 1995 model year.

With respect to numbers, I have a 93 Hot witha 4XX serial and a 95 hot with a 14XX serial.

No, as I say I think it is most likely a repainted 93 Explosif, but the way he has had it repainted it does have a Hot look about it for me.

It is definitely a 1993 frame, you can tell from the dropouts.

Some (a small minority) of 1994 Explosifs had a Tange Ultimate Superlight sticker, rather than Ultimate Ultrastrong, and a plain downtube. KikideParis has one and reports, rather to my surprise, that it is quite a bit lighter overall than the standard version. [I had assumed there would be compensation elsewhere in the specification for the reduction in stiffness in the downtube.] Although I think that what ish says is generally true, if your 1995 Hot has a plain downtube, it may indicate that some later Tange Hots have a similar variation in tube specs. Yes, I have noticed that yours has an Ultrastrong seat tube sticker, and I am sure Mr T told the truth, but as far as I am aware there is no difference between the two seat tubes, the difference is only in the top and down tubes.
