So these are the brakes

I could have fitted XT 734 or 739, which are more shiny, but it doesn't work out with my front rack and I am not out for period build

RD is a 730 XT, a joy to setup, my 9-speed recently almost made me mad. The frame has a pulley at the seat tube for down pull derailleurs, but my 7 and 9 speed Ultegra have both the bolting in the wrong place and they don't work, so I will use the top pull DX instead, also fits color wise.


Chainset is a Sugino DX, left over from another bike, with my favorite DX touring pedals, and hubs are again both Edco Competiton, the rear makes a lovely noise


So it's all set up, bars wrapped and ready for a test ride

Some impressions of the completed build in action: Best brakes I’ve had so far on a drop bar bike, in terms of classic rim brakes. You can’t go more than 35 km/h with 40/28 but I never do that apart from down the hills. Next investment is probably in bars with a little less reach and 48-50 mm tires when the old Snoqualmies are finally giving up the ghost

Bid on a matching Nitto stem but no luck this time. There aren’t any quality 25.4 drop bars in stock in continental Europe anyway. So bigger volume tires with some tread and no further changes in the near future. The Compass were actually only 40 mm wide, 48 will be a big step regarding comfort. I already have the Tufos in 40 mm on the other Bike-tech with mudguards and think they are great value for the money. Also bent a new “decaleur” for my bag as the former one was a little bit squashed.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this, regarding the Koga frame, some people should put the tools down and just walk away. A quick slap to remind them not to touch any tools again is entirely optional

I'm a Koga fan boy, however I don't ride any carbon. I don't trust a plastic bicycle. Rightly or wrongly it's just my choice.

It all turned out well though, my kind of go anywhere or do whatever you want bike.

Thank you It’d be interested riding a modern carbon frame with build in flex, but I'm not sure about the ride quality of aluminum wrapped in carbon. The Bike-tech is more like a Surly from the nineties and as you say, do whatever you want bike, but for a fraction of the price. Losing a few kilos would make me faster than any frame material anyway

I've always said if you want to save 100 grams have a good poo .
Rider weight loss is often the answer, I speak as a porker
