Hi Retrobike friends

My Orange build is coming along (slowly) - I managed to get a black Ritchey seatpost in the (rare) 31.4mm size to fit into the seat tube, however, I have no idea what size seat clamp I need to secure it. Is it a 31.8mm I need or bigger ... ?

Help - Christian

hello mate,my Aluminium 'O' has a 31.8 external and a 27.2 seatpost,so it may be similar to that,if thats any help to you?

If it was a 31.8 seat clamp then the tube walls would be 0.2mm thick! That's not much thicker than tin foil.

Seriously though, my Elite, bitd, was 34.9.

I take it that your one is the polished alu with the chunky black decals?

Thanks

Thanks for the responses people.

Yes my frame has got the weird square chunky 'Orange' decals - I've posted pics in an earlier forum thread.

I'm probably gonna be exiled when my build is finished as it's being re-built with modern components and fork unlike everyone here who searches for ye olde parts - although I do miss Deore DX and Mavic derailleurs ...

yeah, mine is 34.9, just bought it from Hurin on here and am commuting on it.

Beautiful bike, wants to go fast all the time and is a joy to ride (except getting used to canti brakes after discs!)

I tried my salsa seat clamp that i replaced on a stumpy fsr because it slipped and guess what... it slipped! Have just put on a hot rod bar tonight and a few new (old) bits. We have to swap stories. I am building up in April/ May with a full frame polish and Gil decals, can't wait!

Canti's for V-brakes????

OMG I'm panicking now.

Will Shimano XT V-brakes fit onto my canti bosses?

I had assummed all along they are the same fitment - maybe Magura HS33's are my only option?????

:(

Hey there- i have XT cantilevers, if you move to V brakes, I believe you need v brake levers- they pull a different amount of cable.

Fantastic bikes, huh? Mine was a dream today riding it for the second time- now i can stop on it.

I think i'm in love

:P

and to answer your q- yes i think v brakes slot straight on cantilever bosses!

Your Vs will fit OK so no need to panic. Just make sure that you use V-brake levers as well.
