I recall this bike being one of the first (apart from Kona) to feature a 'noticably' sloping top tube, not at all like the more sober 970. The 970 had a DX/XT mix but the 990 was all out XT. I recall also that this was the bike issued to Trek team riders before the 9600 came out. I almost bought an ex race bike from a guy who worked in the Trek shop in Leeds, he wanted £600 for it, I settled for my Clockwork instead, which I still own.
