Yeah, and that bugs me to hell, i correct people all the time. Alu is a metal element, Alloy is a term to mean "mixed" or not pure. Completely different meanings that just happen to sound similar, I don't use words just because that's their common meaning, tis hw we al nd spkn txt innit

Sympathy on the text speak though. I still use proper words, capitals, punctuation etc. Sad.

So what is the difference? Choosing to speak correctly selectively is OK? You either speak correctly and strive to learn or you pretend to speak correctly and not bother (and by "you" i mean "one" so not directed at you). I'm not anal about things, but there are certain words which are so commonly missused it is irritating.

Another bugbear is "affected" and "effected"

I will correct any idiot that does so.
