90s Rourke (Build thread)

Well spring is here so best get building something to keep me busy. Picked this one up as a bike sans wheelset in February. Componentry was cheap, nasty and had seen better days but the frame and chrome was in good shape. I stripped it down and sent it back to Jason Rourke for renovation. The colour scheme was a nod to Merckx and Molteni although it also looks a bit Holdsworth

I bought a job lot of vintage spares from a guy I found (again on eBay) and hidden in the various boxes, there was a mostly complete Campag Record Ti groupset. It had come off an Itialian bile so I bought a NOS Record headset from the forums here and sourced a Chorus BB (I was surprised you could still buy them new)

Nice paint. Is there pearl in the Orange?

Yes it's a pearlescent orange called black fire I think. It'll look good in the sun I reckon

Starting to come together. I found a NOS 3TTT Status stem to go with some Forma SL bars in a nice titanium colour finish. The Record Ti 9 speed groupset is loosely fitted and I'm wondering whether to go with the Ergopower shifters or to keep them on the downtube.

The wheels are Record Ti 9 speed hubs (I think) on some deep section Mavic CPX30 rims which are not that light by todays standard but suit the build.

Just need to order a chain, bar tape, some tyres and a genuine cable set.

I've found some blue Cinelli cork tape and just deciding on tyres and a saddle. IIRC someone was selling a blue Concor NOS saddle on the forum.

I agree, but would add a lot of weight to the build from a practical point of view?

Managed to pick one up from Swinnerton's for £100 which I thought was a such a bargain, I paid quick and ran out of the sho[
