90's Gazelle Champion Mondial - Race devison Reynolds 653

Hey fellow retro ravers,

Here is my recently found and restored Gazelle Champion Mondial from the race devision in Dieren. The frame says aa.special.653 and demarks the reynolds tubeset used. All of this to
convince my 'aesthetically sensitive' wife to come along for the ride.

The frame and paintwork is in miraculous condition. I fell in love with the lugwork and the fact it sports all the fancy, gussets, braze-ons and routing options one could wish (and opt) for at the time.

So far i've sourced some vintage parts as for now it's finished with a full shimano 600 groupset (including the hard to find braze on front derailleur) and hubs laced to some ultralight campagnolo omega "v" hardox anodized rims (which weigh in at around 400 grams!).

I've been able to settle on a bar she likes (after trying numerous flat and moustache bars), which is a cinelli top bar 62 with internal cable routing. the bar is wrapped with brooks white leather bar tape and the saddle is the new all-rubber brooks cambium c17s (which a lot of you may find anachronistic?)

I'll be needing some help and tips from you guys to improve upon it.
Please tell me what you think!

(The pictures are shot at the bikeshop I run in the center of Antwerp, which has aided me in my search for parts and tools for the build. But not as much as you'd think, since the industry has moved on quite a bit since this bike came around!)

Amazing bike! First time I have seen such amazing dropouts on a Gazelle. The 600 group is one my favourites too. Why did you not go with STI shifters?

thanx!

I don't particularly like the quality of the 600 sti's I was finding.
my wife has small hands and she couldnt get used to the long lever throw. the pawl mechanism also often refused dropping to lower gears, even after reconditioning. I went with the stock 600 downtube shifters, but at some point was even considering thumbies.

anyways, not that she cares to shift much! I can't teach her either, because i am one a single speed myself
