90’s Eddy with Mavic gset

Sjl

Dirt Disciple
Finally finished a Mavic equipped Eddy Merckx Strada. Just found some lovely NOS Pete Matthews wheels to finish it off. Was previously running it with some more modern wheels and an 11 spd cassette which surprisingly worked really well with the mavic mech and simplex levers. I much prefer these simplex friction levers to the correct indexed mavic levers which i dont love.
Anyway, it rides surprisingly well and the brakes suit the pianni rims which have a black coating on the rim surface? The shimano ax seat pin wont let me level the saddle but not going to worry about it.
Think i will take it to Regents Park for loops later this week and its official outing.

Beautiful, you've done a cracking job there!

However, please take an inch off both gear cable ends, it's playing havoc on my OCD for such things!

Lovely build, I agree on your shifter point. I am running an almost identical group on my Vitus!
If those are the original sintered pads on the brakes, watch out for them eating your rims. I would recommend the Kool Stop replacements if it's a rider.

Thanks, yes, i think i saw your comments about kool stop pads, might take a look at the pads, have some old campy pads that might fit. To be fair the brakes are pretty good on the pianni rims, they have a black ceramic brake bed.

(I did have a Vitus 979/Mavic build but foolishly sold it during lockdown)
