9 speed gear setup slipping constantly

Evening all,

What a brilliant forum - loads of cool stuff on here. I used to have MTB's when I was younger and I've always wanted to get back into it. At Xmas I splashed out on buying a new frame and all the bits!

Now, I have a problem I need some help with...

The bike is all built up & fine, but whatever I do I cannot stop the chain from jumping in the top sprockets on the rear cassette.

Specs are 9 speed XTR 970 - including mechs, shifters and chainset. Chain and cassette are 9 speed SRAM on Hope Pro 2 hub.

All the stuff I have is brand new, and it only seems to shift under load in the top half of the rear cassette in the middle and top chainrings.

Does anything sound wrong? I wasn't sure if I should have a spacer between the cassette and the freehub? Thats about all I can think of.

Any help really appreciated.

Cheers,

Patrick

I suspect the cabling. A split outer can do exactly that - check carefully that all cables are sound and taut and the end caps are snug.

It took me ages to find it when it happened to me.

I take it the chain is not slippling over one particular gear rather it is trying to shift when use the lever but fails and skips about abit.

As said mech hanger maybe bent, b tension screw may be out, chain too long (mech folded up on it self?) cables outers not seated in stops properly it goes on. Check everything methodially.
