89 WHEELER PROLINE 5500, Mountain LX Drive Train

Right took a bit of a EBay gamble coz from the poor pics there were a few choice parts, spent three hours of my Saturday driving to Leicester and back and a hundred miles round trip, however I think I may have struck a bit of gold due to the absolutely wonderful condition of this bike which I don’t think has seen many miles or much mud in its life.
The bike is a 89 WHEELER PROLINE 5500, which I believe is a German manufacturer still going strong today and a perhaps a bit lesser known as I had never heard of them, but who make some very high quality stuff it would seem.

Again my plan had been to take a few choice parts and sell the rest, but only seems right to sell as is, and wrong at this point to split as the bike is in such fantastic condition.
Frame is a lugged Tange steel frame, I think about 20 inch but don’t quote me, too big for me anyway, unless I have the saddle as is.

The thing for me was the condition of the whole bike, which is IMO top notch. Hopefully the pics show this, have given the bike a quick clean and put on a new front wheel and tyre, but that’s all
The drive train is Mountain LX throughout, and sooo low miles,

One wheel missing when I picked it up, rear is black araya on exage hub, and I have put on a silver VP 20 with what i think is an exage hub also( off an 89 Muirwoods) and a Tioga amber wall farmer johns nephew VGC, not a perfect match but close.

Have ridden the bike and she is sweet, and I plan to take her off some sweet jumps lol.
Condition is Fab, there is some stick sticker glue here and there but will come off easily, got 90% off in one wash.

Looking for £140 delivered to your door, Drive train alone is worth this I think.

Collection for £120 is cool either,

so quite common then, just seems real quality is all with the lugged frame and the level of the components,

as i say its the condition for me, the lgeometry and the fact that the frame is lugged makes me think the cockney fixed gear fashion crowd would like this, the guy told who hads a business in Germany told me it was the equivalent of £500 in german money when he bought it.

I can break and make the money no problem,just seems wrong is all, bike is A1,

why do my morals get in the way of making money :cry: :cry:

look in top condition , but as said , wheeler were very common on continent and that is a low range model .

blimey if mountain LX was bottom range, how come they got away with peddling so much tat in UK then 600 lx,GS, 400 lx GS, 200 GS its like Hawk cyles equpping bikes with XT ,lol

I alreay know roughly what i will get breaking and ebaying, juts really seems a shame, with condition being everything and all that, and perhaps there being some german boy who had one in his youth etc, also thought someone might want to transfer the whole drive train, if i could not get NOS i would be well happy with this IMO,

how come i never heard of wheeler also, oh well wil lgive it some time and then break, let me know if there is anything anyone likes

poor old wheeler bikes, lol, well i like her and she is quality me thinks Condition is everything as they say, I might put the drive train on the Muirwoods though im sure there is a reason why i did not like Biopace stuff
