Are you sure Steve? It's very surprising that a fork made in the 853 era (96 at the very earliest) should be of a pre-suspension a-c length. It would be even more surprising if he built that frame with the kind of pre-suspension geometry that would suit the fork.

You have quite a long stem on there, so if your current fork is indeed too long for the frame, you should be finding that the two in combination give rather slow steering, in which case maybe you could do with a shorter fork. However if the steering is sharp already, then this eBay fork is going to make it very sharp indeed.
 
Bugger!! your right Anthony, that'll teach me not to read the listing :roll: I just saw the 853 and assumed they'd be 420mm at least :?
