80s stratton Roberts frame

Got this maybe ten years ago and rode it as is with band on shifters and a mishmash of mostly golden arrow. I loved riding it and was pretty rough looking so never got stolen...

What would you do with it. I'd love to have it repaired and resprayed but im thinking with all the chrome I could spend A LOT.

it's got several dents, the rear derailleur hanger has been sawn off and one of the DT shifter bosses is stripped. I always felt slightly cramped on it but I ended up with moustache bars and was very comfortable.

Any info on the serial appreciated.

If it’s of sentimental value then just get the needful repaired only frame polished only then lacquered then ride so it still looks rough….

Sorry i don't exactly understand what you mean when you say polished and lacquered?

Also do you mean if it's NOT of sentimental value then it's not worth fully renovating?

Well I went at the chrome forks with aluminium foil but the chrome is definitely well pitted and cannot be polished back to glory...

Had a chat with Steve Goff, really nice man. He suggested stripping the chrome, repairing, and enamel all over. He uses CandG. He said the 531p is already thin and rechroming might thin it too far!

RS chrome gave me a quote for 150 plus vat for just the forks and rear dropouts. As I understand the blades on a set of 531p are the same as standard 531 so maybe I could risk thinking them but to be honest after the repairs I probably won't have the cash.

Thinking all over black and gold lining plus the older style Stratton decals.

Thinking about suntour vx and barcons, 7 or 8 speed casette, stronglight 49 and early ultegra dual pivots and slr aero levers, campag aero post and a dura ace stem, if I can get on ok with the 100m reach and the drop, we'll see. Bit of a mash but im not a completist! Other options are 600 tricolour or 105 arrow...

So I think im needing a non drive side 49d arm 170mm, vx front mech, although I have a mounttech for now but it's not very sleek looking! Also need a campagnolo rear dropout with hanger, Steve can sell me a pair for 75 quid but I only need one and maybe someone has one in decent nick from a trashed frame?

As you seem to be pally with Mr Goff ask him if he has any old Columbus Air tubing if you speak to him again 😁

I've only spoken to him once and a few emails. I had to ring quite a few times before I caught him...

No one seems very interested in my little project but never mind. Im guessing the 8478 serial gives me 1984 as it's built for recessed Allen brake nuts. Also thinking the 531p and the chrome would have been a pretty fancy frame back then!

I got a quote for 150 plus vat to chrome just the forks and dropouts so might do that but not the stay but I probably won't have the cash with repairs and re spray.

I'm guessing for a pricey frame with the chroming it was probably fitted with campag but I haven't got any and my golden arrow is the right era plus the suntour barcons which I also really like. I'm definitely fitting my 49d cranks back on as im appreciating the small rings on the hills.
