8-speed Campy hubs, what have I bought?

I happened to come across a NOS 8-speed Record hub set that I'm planning on using for a new wheel build for an old Colnago. I spent quite a lot of money on them, but I really wanted to be certain that the hubs were in perfect condition before I stuck them on a nice new pair of wheels, so I was happy when I found this set that is certain to be in great mechanical condition.

However, I've now discovered that there's apparently a few different versions of body's on the different generations of 8-speed hubs. I'm still waiting for the hubs to arrive, but can someone more knowledgeable than me tell from the sellers photos what it is that I've bought exactly? I also found a NOS Record cassette and would of course want it to work with my shiny new hub (I also have one of the Campy compatible cassettes from Miche as a backup, but it would be nicer to use the "original" if I can).

That looks like a 9 speed rear hub - alloy body and deep splines. While the 8-speed cassette will fit, it also will cut rapidly into the freehub body. Campag recommend that 8-speed cassettes are NOT used on alloy bodies, so don't fit the stock Miche cassette. All is not lost - use 9 speed sprockets with the 8 speed spacers.

I'm a bit puzzled as I thought that Record had a different dustcap design - that hub looks like a 9 speed Chorus to me, although my memory is hazy and I am prepared to be proved wrong.

Re:

Ok, so I did some googling and apparently this was the last version of the 8-speed hubs. The body is titanium and the splines are the same as the 9-speed version, but only compatible with the titanium 8-speed cassettes, not the older ones (the ones you can still easily buy).

The spacer kit needed to be able to convert 9-speed cassettes for this body is no longer available, so it looks like I'm screwed. I do have another quite worn 8-speed hub with the regular steel body, so I will check if it's possible to simply put that body on this hub. This turned out much more complicated than I anticipated.

That seem to clear things up...off to check my hub now, I might have the same. :?

If you have an 8-speed cassette then you can use its spacers with 9 speed sprockets (plus the mod on Sheldon Brown). That's all the spacer kit is. The 8s cassette is the same length as 9, unlike Shimano which needs odd 1mm washers.

Success! The body's turned out to be interchangeable, so I simple put the old "regular" steel body on the new hub and everything looks and works perfectly and smooth as butter.

That's a Record Ti hub and compatible only with its own Ti cassettes, the spline pattern is different from other Campag cassettes.
And the axle is different, too, so you won't be able to fit another freehub unless you go for some mods. Good luck!

If you can read italian, I wrote those articles a while ago (unfortunately the images are gone)

Yes, I found some info about the 8-speed "Titanium" hub and it's unique cassette, but I was able to fit the body from an older "regular" 8-speed hub without any issues. Seems to be working perfectly. This is how it looks.
