755 or 756

My 755 that I've had since new - although, looking through all the Proflex forums here, I'm wondering if it may be a 756. Searching for a new front mech (now found) brought me to this site originally but I'm loving seeing all these beautifully restored bikes. After a year or so of fun riding when I first bought it, it was relegated to my dad's garage for 10 years while work and kids got in the way, resurrected early last year with a mammoth service and hunt for spares. I never really got on with the Girvin forks but seeing all the bikes on here made me realise why I bought it in the first palce - I think it was a beautiful bike. I may have to search out a set of Vector 2's!

I can't help with the year I'm afraid, but does it have a serial number on the bottom bracket shell? that may provide a clue?

If you haven't done so already then pop over to the Proflex idriders forum and ask this question there as well, I'm sure someone will be able to give you an answer.

Looks like Proflex changed the frame geometry during the run of the 755's, early ones had the straight seat-tube, the latter had the Kinked seat-tube. Rear swing arm was identical as were colours and decals.

Pictures below indicate the similarites and differences.

Hope this helps :D

i was told that the last number in the model name was relevant to what year it was, so 752 would be a 1992 and 755 would be a 1995, that said when i got my x-px model i found that through the rapid descent forum for proflex bikes that the x-px model was a half year frame.

basically in 1995 they ran out of frames so the brought the 1996 frame forward so some were 1996 frames but with 1995 builds on them, the following year they also became the x-px frames.

here are some pics, the x-px frame is mine, a 1996, but you'll see the other frames are 855/6 etc numbered frames but look the same, one thing to look out for though is the canti hole cut out on the seat tubes, this suggests a 1995 frame for canti's where as the same frame with out the cut out would be for v brakes and therefore a 1996.

Thanks. It looks like it's a late 95 frame then, it does have the hole in the seat tube for cantis. I was a bit confused as the 95 catalogue has the straight tube and I hadn't seen another badged 755 with the kinked tube.
