7 speed Altus shifting

Hi all,

I have a Shimano altus 7 speed rear derailleur circa 1995. What are my options for shifters at the bar end.

Will modern thumb shifters work such as SL M315 or do I need something of the same age?

Modern will be fine as cable pull should be the same as always.

Any 7/8/9 shifter will work. 10 speed and up has a different cable pull per click.

Shimano ST-M095 brifters are a very luxurious upgrade for the Altus

@deandent1 what did you go for in the end? Did it work out? I've got to get some new shifters for a 7 speed but not sure I can justify Deore components on this bike

Hi, 7 speed altus rear mech and an 8 speed trigger (Shimano branded but no model markings). Works a treat. All good

Nice one - I've spotted some slm315 going cheap on eBay so might give them a go
