7 speed 8 speed thumbies ?

hello i have a 95 cinder cone kona i have a xt 8 speed cassette and orig front mech 8 speed chain and deore 7 speed thumbies and orig chain set will this lot work ok ? thumbies can go to free shift mode not click on

the deore and deore XT 7spd thumbies have this gost shift beyond the 7th which allow them to shift an 8spd shimano cassette without problems. not sure if it is the same with the deore thumbies but i would think so. they work fine with 8spd cassette in index mode if combined with a shimano rear der that has the floating upper pulley (i.e. with some side play).

looking to replace my orig chain rings to 42 32 22 ta rings ? any other cheers

TA ones will work well and really last. Shimano ones are made of cardboard by comparison.
