6k a grey box bought!

Re: 6k on a grey box. What would you buy?

I replaced a bust shock on my old grey box and its now like driving a new grey box!

I think once you have settled on a few contenders it is better to gen up on one or two you would be 'happier' with and go for the best example you can find.

Once friend asked for help acquiring a SAAB lately, and I really don't know them. I did check book and it was well under with low miles and all. No brainer. He had that confirmed by a SAAB expert after I had taken him for test driving it. It was a painful wait until the next day to find out he had bought it. He was so worried it had MOT expiring soon he took it for MOT as soon as he could, and it passed with no advises. Spare set of wheels with summer tyres too.

Sad I didn't snag it, which was my intention if he did not.

I would also recommend an estate.

You never know when you need to carry the odd gate around.

Hyundai/skoda thing is snobbery. But you know how it is. Swmbo.

Re: 6k on a grey box. What would you buy?

Understandable. At the end of the day you have to be happy with things you spend years with, and that is as practical a consideration as anything else. I love Mercs, so acquiring another van that happens to be one has me chuffed. I still love the Transit, though it is just for lugging crap, and will regret seeing the Renault leave, but the Merc is a keeper. It drives like new and I know it has five years trouble free in it.

If you get a six year old low miler, you ought to be set for a good few years relatively trouble free. That is what cars ought to be about, not a constant crossed fingers challenge.

I have just stumbled across 2.2l diesel Honda civics. 135mph 145bhp £20 tax and 65mpg.

I'm in love. But will SHE be?

No brainer for your criteria. I think that they are great (although it's not me that you need to convince!)

Re:

Very nice. Very low miles too. Part service history, hopefully that has a good explanation.

I would hammer them for a deal at £6000.

Lovely car, and I am sure that would be a hoot to drive!

The boss still likes fords. Car parks are now research opportunities. Everything I read about civics makes them more attractive other than a weak clutch. VW look a bit bland but functional.
