Retro Newbie

Hi all!
This is my 1980's Paino weight weenie neo retro build. Frank Paino is one of those mystical characters who inhabit the pages of the close-knit, pre-internet Australian cycling and frame building community. He established Miranda Cycles in the South Sydney area during the 80s; his frames earned their world champion stripes by carrying Gary Sutton (the current NSW Institute of Sport Head Cycling Coach) to victory in the same era.
In 2008 I picked up this lovely Paino with the intention of riding it in the 100km Sydney to Gong charity ride (was a great ride!). Once I mentioned that to the seller he was so happy that the bike was going to be ridden that he let me have it for $500 AUD.
I managed to track down Peter from Star Enamellers who was the guy who originally painted the frame for Frank Paino back in the 80's! He wasn't really taking on new jobs, but once he saw the frame he knew he had to do the job. I went to town with polishing all the campy gear on the bike and it came out looking like this:

Fast forward 17 years... I wanted to get back on the bike for fitness (both mental and physical). Truth is the brakes felt so sketchy, and the Rolls saddle so uncomfortable I decided to (quite quickly) buy a more modern bike which ended up being the Allez Sprint, then the S-Works SL6, then the S-Works SL8 but one night I stupidly thought I'd see what 45 deep wheels would look like on the Paino. I'm 50, and it doesn't move unless I take Viagra, but holy hell it moved when I saw this!

I went to town with it, it's been a lot of fun. I've made sure I've not done anything that I can't undo so I could always go back to the classic Campy build, and the bike rides a lot better now too (feels a lot more modern).
