right folks i've found a tiny 5mm crack on the bottom of the bottom tube where it joins the steerer :? it runs along the weld and is barely noticable , i'm thinking about making the crack into a v-shaped groove and filling it in with chemical metal :o it's a 7005 alloy kona frame .

barein in mind it's for the wife and the biggest thing it's gona see will be a kerb

how much would you take to spot it mike ?

LOL.
Chemical metal is useless for any strength application.
Get it welded.
Chemical metal is best suited to sealing holes/leaks in motor bike engine cases where ther is no strength required.
Basically imo chemical metal is sh$%e no matter what the application.
Its a bodgit to ebay jobbie

sounds like its in a terminal position there Alex :? may be best to consign that one to the wall.Catastrophic failure in that area could leave serious injuries.

Bad idea.

It may just be a crack in the paint. You could sand the paint off and look for the crack in the metal.

Being 7005, and knowing a competent tig guy, you could weld over it with the minimum of heat.

Or just leave it and keep an eye on it, seeing as it will only see the curb.
