Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) who I met at Goodwood last year and was allowed to actually touch and photograph close up detail of his 63 GTO paid £16,000 for his in the 70's. Critics then thought he had overpaid for it! He was offered 25 million last year, but turned it down. It appears to me that investments always seem overpriced at the time of purchase, but then go on to seem a bargain in a few years. I remember looking at mint Kona Explosifs a few years ago on Ebay for around £130. Looking back now, I wish that I had boughg every one that I saw back then.
