It is just a case of extremes. If you are a competitive rider then the weight/durability issue might bring you down in favour of something near as light.

Personally, I am glad it is out there, in the same way F1 cars develop things that are great for future road cars.

Just not for me though, I like to throw things around, and I weigh too much for super lightweight steeds. Still like to keep under 10Kg for my mountain bikes as a general rule though. More for the hefting them over walls, fences and up stairs or into cars, etc. On that basis I don't need a lightweight road bike, they all come in under that weight in the form I prefer.

This would be no good for competition as it's too light to be legal!

The guy who owned this frame before Fairwheel put 20,000km on it so it's not that weak, that's why it's so expensive. Anyone can make a 6lb bike that bends if you sit on it, it takes $45,000 to make one that doesnt.

yep , limit is 6.8kg for racing which fairly easy to achieve now .
