I think we generally rode much bigger frames in those days Mike, with horizontal top tubes….no need for long seat posts!!

Keep looking. we had one about twice that length on an Overbury but it got seized in and had to be removed with more force than was good for it.There were no markings on it as to who made it but the top half was very much what you have in the photo so they do exist.
