sorry to hijack the thread but my question is related,

wil i be able to use a 27.2 seat post in a 97 kona designed for a 27.0 only nice and reasonable 27.0 seatposts are a bit rare where as the world is full of 27.2 it seems

thanks

charlieboy

I'd go with the 27.0 as using the wrong size can damage the frame. Decent 27.0 post are definitely harder to find, but if you're patient they turn up:

It depends what model it is. I have a 27.2 in my 97 Kilauea, because that's what fits, but I have a 97 Lava Dome and a 27.2 is too tight in that. They just vary , I have 27.2 in a 98 Explosif and a 94 Kilauea, but a 95 Kilauea and a 96 Explosif won't take a 27.2.

Like Anthony says, they just vary a bit. I have a 27.0mm in my '95 Kilauea and it won't take a 27.2mm, but a 27.2mm in my '95 Explosif is a perfect fit.
You just have to try and see really - unless you use stupid amounts of force you can't really do any damage by trying a 27.2mm seatpost in a nominally sized at 27.0mm frame. It'll either go in or it won't (as the actress said to the bishop  )

Thomson do nice 27.0mm posts BTW.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice folks

its for a hahanna you see, as i have now developed a passion for the poor neglected entry level bikes, so im not after anything too top end, hoping for it to be black, new, and about £20,

would rather play it safe and get a 27.0 rather than having an erroneous seatpost which i know will only inspire me to get another bike to put it on.

any ideas welcome, and sorry once again for the hijack, lol

while we are it it, itsmy intention is to hang relatively modern stuff on the bike, it would seem that it was designed for 80mm of travel, but havig reead another related thred, will i get away with 100mm as again 80mm seem to go for top dollar in ok condition, I understand that the explosifs in 97 came with a z1 or z" which ever had the longer travel, but also that the hahanna and i think firemountain have slightly different geometry,

the frame is 16 inch as thats how i like them so i do not really have the option of shortening the stem

thanks

why thank you folks, and thanks once again fluffmeister, The t bone it is i think, cheapest, best looking and also contemporary to the frame ermm possibley, though seem to remember seeing them about quite a bit back i n the day,

so what about the fork question then? will i get away with 100mm of travel, as the frame geometry is different from the kona's discussed before allegedly, will a modern fork with a decent degree of sag be fine whilst running a stem of 110 or 120mm
