Much as I like bikes in all their guises (owning a folding Birdy & 29er amongst others), the "niche" thing can be a bit annoying.
Scrolling past MTBR's "29er" and "Singlespeed" boards to reach the "Vintage & retro" board, I often see threads titled..
"What chain for 29er" ;
"Recommend me a saddle for singlespeeding"
"Which weird handlebars for riding to the shops"
As if the wheel size or gearing makes the owners feel inherently "special" (in the "nice" sense of the word ) or affects which bars they're allowed to use.
Er... though I have to admit... This rant was brought to you by a bloke who owns a Kona Humu wannabee Cooks Klunker converted to a 3-speed hub-geared 29er...
OOPS! [climbs off soap box] Get me a front seat on the next passing niche-wagon!!
Just don't get me started on uber expensive brakeless fixies ridden (badly) on gridlocked city streets by the clueless Soho and Hoxton hipster crowd...
