21 Inch frame - too big?

also we don't know if you are measuring 21" to the top of the ST or center to center. you might be talking about a 19" frame that measures 21" to the top. we don't really know yet.

i did think of this after i posted!
thanks for all the responses! didnt expect this much of a discussion about it!
i currently ride a 19" and thats comfortable (or at least i'm used to it..)- but something tells me a 20" wouldnt be too much of a difference - but, i'd need to know how my 19" is measured first to really be sure if going larger would be better.

i mostly use my 19" to commute (pretty much all road/cycle path).

i think sticking around the 19"/20" i wont go too far wrong judging by the comments so far (providing i check out how the measurements are made first) this to me makes the most sense :)

thanks again RB chaps :)

changed the topic of this thread as the bike i was asking about has been sold.
anyway,
i'm just a touch under 6ft. generally speaking, would a 21" frame be too big?
or is this too general to comment on?

Twain you really are just under 6ft?

Don't take this as Gospel more like a rough guide, look at other manufacturers size guides as well.

Thats pretty much bang on for me!

Ditto...

...I'm 6'1 and ride 18 and 19" frames (two of them Konas) but I have a long reach (handy for the boxing, that's why I'm still as strangely good looking as I am! ) so I tend to use longer stems (160mm on my cro-mega! ).

If you look at my 18" framed blue Kili Wot in my sig. there's a nice side-view shot that illustrates perfectly how I set up my bikes. The identical red bike I'm building has a smaller, 17", frame so I just measured the height of the seat rails from the BB and the handlebar from the nose of the seat and bought longer seatpost and stem to compensate! 8)

Twain,
your 1st question....yes.
Your 2nd question....no.

Glad to sort that out for you.

Right, I'll get the kettle on. Who wants a brew?

a quick dip and a waft for me with a splash of green top milk.

Try being 6'6", a 21" is on the smallish border line for me, I live in the 22-24 inch frame market which is a small market full of gas pipe specials

It's hard to say. I'm 6'2" with a 34" inside leg and I ride a 18.5" Hard tail Rocky Mountain, and a 17.5" Full sus Marin. both of which are perhaps an maximum of an inch too small for me to be perfect.

and I' 5' 10" with 34" inside and ride 20" Rocky Mountains of the early 1990's and that is perfect, no doubt about it, no matter what RobMac says.
I have an 18.5" Ricky and it's too small.
19/20" are the size I like to ride. I find many people ride too small a bike in my opinion.
The 20" Kona is fine also, easy and comfy to ride, a 19" would probably feel pretty similar just with a lower front end.

Rockies, like Kona's are measured Centre to Top if that matters

Each to their own preference and really, try and find out like most things.

Along the same lines as all of the above its what you plan to do with it.

I'm 5' 10" and my none retro cheapo commuter mtb is a 22" frame an i wouldn't dream of taking it off road but for commuting the 2.5 miles to Uni each day its rides a dream.
