2014-06-29 Glentress Aftermath

I did have a thumby to shift the front mech if that helps

Anyhoo I had a full sus with 27 gears and hydraulic magura discs back in 2000, i've been a head of the pack once upon a time.

It was, might start wearing light armour though, modern capable bike encourages me to ride faster which means the crash when it comes might be harder, dont bounce like I used to

Any recommendations for light flexi armour anyone. I have sixsixone knee pads which are a bit too heavey duty and thus would like to know of lighter stuff that anyone recommends.

Light armour? Just stick with the 661. I pretty much lived in mine the last trip to Canada. All armour will get a bit sweaty but you get used to it. All the open backed stuff I've seen tends to be hard plastic shelled and I'm not keen on that for pedalling. Considering new arm pads myself. I've POC elbow pads but when I crashed in them, my forearms weren't covered and ended up skinned.

I use thor arm elbow guards and troy lee knee and shin, both not bad but the leg guards do occasionally move around - both are hard plastic but are cheap and lite and reasonably comfortable. Sweaty in the summer though.

Being skinny I find the sizing of guards a problem. A large has long enough shin guards but is too loose fit a medium/small fits but no long enough.
Tempted to go for the soft armour options as the hard armour tends to be heavier and more restrictive of free movement. My 661 knee pads never stay in place, the weight of the hard armour pulls them down over time and I can never get straps tight enough to hold them in place without cutting off circulation.

Re:

My soft Kyle Strait 661 knees are great. No shin guards but I don't think they're necessary for most riding. Only thing the do is help with pedal strikes. Most crashes only hit the knee area.
Even over in Whistler bike park there're very few people with shin guards.

Man up girly-men... I use chicken wire as part of my skincare exfoliating regime:

nice ketchup

my 661 knees only stay in place if there's lycra under them and pretty uncomfy if there isn't, certainly not a product i'm happy with
