Page one leaves you stunned  and a dog too.

This event is really coming on leaps and bounds and the route looks reasonably easy going even for me though i really dont like the look of what i can only describe from the pic as a narrow burn. The 3rd from the bottom with the older gentleman who appears to have forgotten a fork leg, awww bless him :)
The weather looks more agreeable from the lung chiller from when i was nearly there, a bit wet but id rather have wet and cold than wet and hot if riding.

Looks a very nice time had by all. Might even join you one year(no laughing at the back

Can someone ? OK Jamie and Dave as to how those huge tyred affairs ,for want of a better descript'...Flow ? Does it increase resistance or just like normal tyres only wider. The look like they make the job harder :? Total bike weight ?

Hi Dyna
For the Fatbikes, they are heavier and there must be a bit more resistance in the large low pressure tyres, but it all depends what your looking for it to do. I run mine singlespeed and its great for me, great fun and it handles great, its all relative I suppose. This weekend it was in its element, the mud and gloop were handled with ease as the low pressures floated over some bits and when they did dig through I clearly had more grip than some in front of me. It also rides over almost anything which adds to the fun value. I was coming down the hill that was a small grassy type track with a singletrack that was full of mudholes and wet grass, I found I could overtake by going out onto the grass and over the heather. Sure my 1x1 is a lot lighter but the Pugs is a fun play bike, and for sure its great for trail riding and mucking about but once the pace steps up to a race pace type thing then the weight is noticable and takes its toll. I had ample time to think about this at the Strathpuffer. ;)

Hi Dyna, in the conditions we had I saw no disadvantage with the fat bike. I'm pretty unfit just now and I never felt tired on the climbs this time out. Overall I think the weight is off balanced with the greater traction, lower rolling resistance and increased momentum had from the tyres. Slightly harder to get going over the first few pedal turns but once it is it doesn't want to stop. Mine is 34lbs I believe, plus a few for the mud on this ride.

Cheers Jamie, I'm really sad I have been not able to be at many get togethers these days, 4 weans and the clydesdale eat up all but a few hours a week these days so never enough hours in the day- love the pictures and living vicariously in others daring do!

We'll have to have a ride round your local woods one weekend when you've got a couple of hours.
