Here are some photos of my new Kona Unit. 29" wheels make a huge difference to the singlespeed steel hardtail ride and they work for short arses like me, this is a 16".

I also thought I'd throw in my 1990 Fire Mountain as a comparison. 20 years on...

Really like it, agree with what you say about 29ers working for short arses as well.

Looking good :) I've just put one together too.

And yes the singlespeed and rigid does seem to bring out the attributes of what the big wheels promise. Rolls well and keeps up momentum for singlespeeding whilst taking out some small bump stuff brings in some rigid comfort.

How tall are you and do you get any toe/tyre interface problems? Seems to have a short top tube length, if they did a 16" with a 23" top tube I would buy one.

I'm 5.7 and have had no toe/tyre problems I have put a longer 100mm stem on it but that was to ease up the handling, not for stretch (it comes with a 75mm).

Sound like you'd be OK with a 17"...I had to get a 410mm seat post for it to fit me as I have short body/arms.

I'm 5.8 and my 29er has a massive toptube (23 inch) which I've compensated for by putting on a real short DH stem, rides real nice now.

Not nearly as pretty as that Kona though being alloy
