2008 Giant Halfway (folding bike)

I took the rear wheel to the community bike workshop, as apparently they have not one but 2 experienced bike mechanics.
they need to change that to modern bike mechanics, they both looked stumped when I showed them the wheel and looked even more confused when I said its off a mono,, whats that? came the reply (Both lads looked exactly like Shaggy from Scooby Doo)
Anyway they don't have bearing pullers as they don't use or buy sealed bearings.

So I went home and knocked the bearings out of both wheels myself as I might as well replace them all now.

I found the bearing types and ordered them, I have to say those 6000 RS1's were a right pain in the neck to find.

Thankfully the new chain and freewheel will be here tomorrow, my list of new parts its getting silly so I best get my head in gear and start measuring, cutting and fitting the frame protection films so that I can actually build this bike back up again.

We are lucky and have 2 bike shops in our town :) the one I use now have not been perfect, like they had to rebuild my new wheel after just a month. However they love retro stuff and there are usually very cool older bikes in being worked on or even for sale.

EDIT: Also the service from them has been amazing, I'll support them as much as possible.

The other shop I have had zero problems with the work but they would rather not work on older stuff. I took my San Andreas in for the suspension to be serviced, not a cheap job I might add but they frowned and said "old bikes" and kept me waiting weeks.

Both shops are always very busy though as many people cycle here. I'm sure you wont care about the cost or hassle within a few weeks of it being finished, I find it all doesn't mater then.

The local real bike shop has very little interest in old stuff too thats why thought I try the community one but hey ho I learned something and gained a new experience from it all.
The SKF bearings are probably overkill but Id rather put decent stuff on the old bike to give it a good chance of seeing another 18 years.

Today the chain and freewheel showed up, so all Im waiting for are the bearings to arrive on Monday and for me to get my act together and start cutting the protection films out and get them applied.

I know its not everyones preference but it came with the bike and so it's going back on it, the spoke guard had yellowed and was looking really tired plus I could not find a 105mm one anywhere so a few coats of satin black at the back of it and its presentable again.

Naturally I couldnt wait to see the new freewheel fitted,, (Yeah I know, all the self control of a toddler)

And of course the spoke guard is hidden, so that the sensitive of nature are not offended but my choice 😂😂

About the only thing thats hasn't been replaced is the bottom bracket and its fine, and even if its not fine.. it is fine! 🙄🤣
