2006 Kona Cinder Cone :O

That will be the acetone in the nail polish remover as it can be pretty strong stuff but that paint looks pretty fresh now it's clean  ..

Yes, not looking too bad at all now. Plenty of work with the touch-up paint needed though. No real plan at the mo'. Spares box is looking pretty sparse but I have just ordered a pair of red early 2K SIDs off the 'bay so hoping for a good colour match. I'm thinking mainly silver components, wheelset, etc, but with a USA road trip imminent it's going to be on the back burner for a while. Be nice to have a project to come back to though.

Sounds like you've certaimly got a parts plan on the go even if it's only a certain look in mind at least it's a start
especially since you've ordered those SiDS and yes the USA road trip will give you a chance to gain some more idea's while your out there mate 8) ..

Began retouching with primer today . . .

Sure, it'd be easier to strip the whole lot and respray but that would be too easy. After lots of elbow grease and T-Cut the frame is pretty shiny but does look as though it's been caught in the crossfire of a pellet gun fight

Been there before with the little Explosif so I'm pretty confident I can hand-retouch to a reasonable finish (if you squint  ).

That's coming up really well even though like you quite rightly say it looks like it's been caught in the cross fire of a pellet gun fight and i remember seeing your excellent explosive after you'd worked your magic on it so i'm eagerly waiting to see this at the next stage ;) .

Postman has just been . . .

Early 2K SIDs (how light?? ) and Raceface SyStem . . . fifty shades of red

Yep that must be 3 shades of red you've got with the frame but i still reckon it'll look the business when it's done so are you gonna find out how light those lovely SiDs really are although tbh just looking at them they don't actually look heavy but i assume that's due to the light colouring of the paint ;) ..

Pretty pleased with the results so far . . .

Rear end may be a little more challenging though . . .

Half tempted to strip and polish the stays but we'll see how retouching works.

Oh, and the SIDs weigh 1285g on my kitchen scales :D

Nice work mate that's not to bad a colour match so it will look a little better for giving it a light t-cutting after leaving the fresh paint a week to harden off better and those are pretty feather weight at just over 2 and a half pounds so the Kona shouldn't be to hefty when you've got wheels on it and as for the stays you could always paint them black if the touching up doesn't work out or even white would look the business mate ;) ..

Bit of an update . . . it's been a while. Now looking pretty damn good - the head tube logo is not wonderful but is definitely getting there

. . . was a pretty easy touch-up job as I managed to get an identical colour match . . . win!!

I'm guessing at some time in its dim and distant past the serial number had been removed and badly painted over (although this was a ligitimate purchase from an eBay shop) - looking pretty presentable now.

Sadly the SIDs and lovely Raceface stem went the way of the 'bay to fund other projects though
