Hello folks,

I have a 320GB lap top hard drive I'd like to stick in an enclosure to use as a portable hard drive. There's loads on ebay for £5 and under. Some of them say max capacity 160GB. Is there anything stopping me from using the 320GB drive? Also anything to watch out for/avoid? Any recommendations?

I've bought some of the ultra cheap £2.50 posted ones in the past for use with scrap 30GB-40GB 2.5" drives and they've worked ok.

Cheerio.

ive only used them for smaller drives
i normally get the cheap £2.50 odd ones
aluminium
i was recommended by someone on here to get the ones with larger usb plugs as theyre less likely to break

sorry i cant help
but i think for the price, give it a try
worst that will happen i expect is it will only recognise 160gb

(but you will be able to use all of it, when plugged into pc?)

unless im wrong :?

Only advice other than they are all pretty similar and don't drop them is to check your buying the correct interface type.

Cheers FC, off to spend as little as possible on the bay.

Stated capacity MAY be due to the power requirements of the hard disk drive. I have an ICYBOX 2.5 caddy and it has 2 host end USB connectors both need to be plugged into a port for the HDD to spin up and access.

Look for a caddy with a Y connector.

I need a 3.5" one as my Antec one has died its death!!

Where is the cheapest place for one please & any links?
