Hi Guys new to this site.
I have a set of 1998 Sid (blue race model) and the internals don't hold pressure and no rebound. I have never taken one apart but the legs and stanctions are perfect. It would be such a shame to not be able to use them again. I was wondering if the 1998 sids have any cartridge like 95 judys or are the seals O rings that are easily replaceable and can be bought at seal companies.

Note I have never taken one apart...

Thaey are one big cartridge similar to the Judy just longer rods in them with seals on the side as far as I can see.

Strip and cleanup first.

I have the blowout diagrams for them and probably some service instructions.

Check in the gallery&archive first.
Also do a search for drystonepaul and guides ... He has the old magazine workshop guides scanned that I am almost certain had blue SIDS in.

Since it's a '98 SID which was the first year, I assume you have the one with the crappy needle ball pump inflation valve. That's the most likely culprit for the air loss. You could switch the top caps for the newer schrader valved ones (might cost you around 30$). I don't know how much money you're willing to put into making it work.
Try to inflate the fork and put some soapy water on top of the valve caps, if you get any air bubbles escaping it means that the rubber valve inserts have had it. As far as the damping cartridge goes, it's a sealed unit which was supposed to be unserviceable. I took a few SID's apart and it's not rocket science, that being said I never tried to repair a busted damper cartridge (maybe a Judy one will fit, not sure though...)
