1998 Kona Hahanna restoration... first timer!

Hi there,
Great to see another newbie at it, good luck with the Hahanna build.

I'm in the same boat (following an incident at a set of traffic lights, another cyclist on a shiny new bike actually laughed out loud at the state of my Cinder Cone.....until i smoked him ...) so i have decided to take her in to the modern era, upgrading some components but refurbishing most. 1999 Kona Cinder Cone (owned from new).

The bike currently have makeshift forks, worn down gear teeth and standard components thereafter.

Brilliant link to Aldi -they are selling a bike tool kit which includes chain whip and some specialist removal tools, i will be taking a trip there on Sunday.

Advice may be required....pics to be uploaded regularly.

when are your forks arriving rich.. did eoB give you a steerer length?

Forks landed with Rich today. Steerer was 200mm, so should be find for the Hahanna's 110mm (or was it 120mm) headtube.

Good stuff EOB, knew he was in safe hands when he mentioned where they were coming from

Rich, next question is are you keeping all the current gear kit?. Are you up for new cables/tunning or do you want to try reuse them. to save yourself money you need the bike shop to only have to do three things.

1. Knock out old headset
2. Fit new headset
3. Fit crown race to your new forks.

Arrived today! Look and feel great. He did give me a length. I'll check now as I'm on mobile.

They're 200mm and my head tube is 110.

Good question. As it's been outside for a few years I guess I'll have to get new cables and get it tuned up. I'm happy to get a shop to sort that.

So, any suggestions on headset and stem?

I would ring the shops and see what they can offer fitted. Cant really go wrong with somthing like a cane creek.

Stem I would try and work out what you need from your old one. then buy a cheap as chips one on here to see. your new forks are going to rock the bike backwards a bit so you may wanna go for somthing a little bit shorter. dont cut your steerer at all for now. you can always use spacers above and below till your settled on what is comfortable.

Good luck with the build, sounds like it will be a nice build, got a 96 hahanna rebuild on the go, make sure you post some pics of how she looks on the new forks!

Not got too far yet, im itching to get to work with it but like new im a new to retrobike, and iv'e blown the little bike budget i had on my last bike :cry:
